Totem Objects

When I look at the traditional art of the first nations here on the west coast I'm always awestruck. Each work has an incredibly deep narrative behind it, full of history, personal experience, and cultural significance. This is most accessible in their Totem Poles, which can describe many things depending on the context of its display.

For me, I used the objects of interest to my paternal family and recontextualized them to hint at the form of animals, each of which have a set of meaning and symbolic references, to describe the history and perception of where they come from. Both the parts and their inferred animal forms shed light on the relationship, history, and sense of identity for the 3 figures.
